If there’s anything that West Seattle residents are passionate about, it’s West Seattle! (And as proud residents of West Seattle, that includes us!)
Long considered the “Birthplace of Seattle”, the Statue of Liberty replica on Alki Beach marks the spot where the Denny Party rowed ashore in November of 1851.
Enigmatic West Seattle, a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the waters of Puget Sound and Elliott Bay, is like a town of its own, encompassing many smaller neighborhoods, each with its own unique personality and residential vibe. Restaurants, parks, playfields, and spectacular views ~ mountains, sea, city, and sky ~ abound at every turn.
Best known is Alki Beach and its scenes of sand, seashore, and sunsets, in the summer a destination for pooch walking and people watching, sunbathing and skating, picnicking, beachcombing, and exercising of all kinds. Beachy bungalows line the side streets of Alki and luxury condominiums nestle against the Duwamish Head bluffs. Stately, turn of the century Tudors and Victorians are examples of tree-lined North Admiral’s architecture. Low-slung, Wright-inspired mid century modern homes can be found throughout West Seattle, especially in the hills above Alki and Fauntleroy. Charming postwar bungalows dot the neighborhoods of Gatewood, Genesee, and Seaview. The Junction, where California Street meets Alaska Street, is home to many new townhomes and condominiums, and is the hub of West Seattle’s fine dining, shopping, and urban diversions.
Whatever your passion, be it running or reading, gardening or Glow Bowling, scrapbooking or scuba diving, find it here ~ in wonderful West Seattle.
